If Tomorrow Never Comes - Garth Brooks

四三拍:

If you ever noticed, you'd find that each episode of Grey's Anatomy is entitled with a song. The title of S01E06 is If Tomorrow Never Comes. Here it is, the representative work of Garth Brooks.

This time I want to discuss the medical case in this episode. This episode is all about procrastination. The patient with the giant tumor finally died on the table. When a case came in, there is a natual question: will he/she live? Through the plot, we may be able to make a right guess sometimes. And this is the first time I lost the bet. There was no hint or tips in the first half of the story. When I looked for the information of this episode, I saw the idea the writer wanted to express:

As the theme of the episode was procrastination, Vernoff stated "the message I wanted to give was not, "Hey it's okay to put off going to see a doctor for two years cause it all turns out alright in the end".

Itimidating but true. I myself am suffering from serious procrastination. And I'm working to fix it. Waiting has cost me a lot. From job opportunities to loved ones. Sometimes when you wait too long, escaping will be awfully spontaneous.

Don't ever wait. Or at least make sure you are doing the right thing while waiting.

Regarding this song, I could have said a lot. But there is an interesting passage I would like to present:

假如明天不再到来……(美国歌曲赏析)

The writer is 徐小平, whom we should have heard of a lot of times, and who remained one of my bosses in a strange way after I changed my job. That passage, is enough to get to know this song. His translation is also a fine one. God I wish if he had finished and published the book Lyric Appreciation. I would definitely buy it.
